I am professor emeritus from Drake University where I taught theatre courses and directed for 37 years.
My plays have had more than 70 productions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Australia, and in regional and educational theatres. My full-length comedy, THE MORNING AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE, received the James Sunwall Prize for New Comedies in 2007. It was presented at the Creative Arts’ Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Writing for the Region Workshop in July, 2007.
Public Television’s production of my feature-length screenplay, THE SPLIT INFINITY, placed fourth in Worldfest Houston (out of 3150 entries from 47 countries).
My short screenplay, HOMELAND SECURITY, was produced by the Iowa Motion Picture Association and was released on DVD with other short films.
My screenplay, OUT OF THE NIGHT (funded by Thanks to Scandinavia, a foundation created by the late Victor Borge), received the prestigious e pluribus unum best screenplay award from the American Cinema Foundation.
My two-act romantic stage comedy, “One Golden Moment,” won the 2008 Jennerstown (Pennsylvania) Mountain Playhouse International Comedy Contest’s Grindstone Award. Its world premiere there is August 10, 2010.
My feature-length screenplay, KEFI, is was optioned by the LA based Adventures in Film, Inc. Lapsed.
My non-fiction book, VOICES OF WOUNDED KNEE (dealing with the 1890 Massacre), remains in print after more than ten years. It received unanimously positive reviews here and in Germany, England, Sweden, and Germany. MY wife Linda collaborated as my research associate and copy editor.
I turned 84 in June (2010. I write daily and see as many baseball games as possible.
I'm married to the lovely and vivacious Linda Robbins Coleman, a composer of symphonic and chamber music. Her works have been played in more than 27 states and four other countries.
We have two sons and four grandchildren.
