What is a Screenwriter's Group?
Writing is a solitary act. It can get very lonely putting words on a page day after day without any feedback. A Screenwriter's Group exists to bring aspiring screenwriters together. As a group we share our scripts, as well as our experiences in the industry. Our mission is to inspire each of us to become better writers.
When did the NJ Screenwriter's Group get started?
Our group started in 1998.
How many members do you have?
We currently have about a dozen members and find that size works best for us.
How often do you meet?
We meet the first Saturday of every month from nine to noon.
Where do you meet?
Currently we meet in a private room at Cafe Beethoven in Chatham, New Jersey. The space is great and the food is fantastic.
What happens at the meetings?
At each meeting, a writer brings his script to share with the group. We read the script aloud. This usually takes about 2 hours. We spend the last hour discussing the script in detail and offering constructive feedback.
What do you look for in a new member?
Obviously we look for writing talent, but we are just as interested in their passion for the craft and the quality of their feedback to the group.
How do I join?
Membership is by invitation only. If you are interested in finding out more about our group, please contact Chris Messineo.
