"Your story must be about a school teacher."
As usual, any questions about the contest, please post here.
OFF-TOPIC COMMENTS WILL BE DELETED!
MJ Hermanny (Level 5) ~ 7/1/2012 5:22 AM
How did Reg know what it was???
Rustom Irani (Moderator) ~ 7/1/2012 5:24 AM
It's on the MP main/front page. :)
MJ Hermanny (Level 5) ~ 7/1/2012 5:25 AM
OH! Doh.
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/1/2012 5:26 AM
Oh, sorry. I wasn't trying to hijack anyone's post. It was a joke though. I copied Chris' post from the last month's contest (More of Less is More) then copied the School Teacher contest's description from the main board.
But I'm sorry if that came out as hijacking, because I was just jokng with though.
Rustom Irani (Moderator) ~ 7/1/2012 5:29 AM
No worries, Reg! Now let's keep this thread for questions about the contest...as Chris would say. :)
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/1/2012 2:59 PM
Does the school teacher we need to talk about have to be present?
Tim Westland (Moderator) ~ 7/1/2012 3:05 PM
Does the teacher have to be alive? Does the teacher have to be in a school? Or could he/she be someone who teaches as in a mentor...
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/1/2012 3:10 PM
Or can we talk about a group of teachers instead of just one?
Scott Merrow (Level 5) ~ 7/1/2012 4:53 PM
What are the odds that there will be at least one zombie schoolteacher?
Raymond Kwok (Level 3) ~ 7/1/2012 8:45 PM
does it include a college professor?
Elias Farnum (Level 5) ~ 7/1/2012 9:00 PM
I imagine that we have some room with this, whether retired, fired, current, alive, dead, at some point in their life the character is, or has been, a teacher. Yes?
Elias Farnum (Level 5) ~ 7/1/2012 9:32 PM
The schools and colleges should be pretty near limitless, yes? Clown college anyone?
Tim Westland (Moderator) ~ 7/1/2012 11:18 PM
Alien zombie ghost clown college
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/5/2012 6:55 PM
Wait. There could be a teacher who turns out to be a toaster. I mean it could be a talking toaster like Toy Story, right? Or the teacher could be a teacher but not in school. She could be sitting on her lazy butt or something while the students are waiting on her.
Or say the teacher can't teach because she can't talk or anything. That means the students would be teaching her. Then the teacher would have to learn to speak. OR maybe the classroom itself could be the teacher where the floor is talking. C'mon guys. We got to bring up our imaginative ideas, right? The floor would be telling the students what to do instead of a human being. Haha. I mean c'mon.
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 7/6/2012 11:50 PM
I have 2 ideas for this month till now,
Anyone need one? :D
Bill Sarre (Level 4) ~ 7/18/2012 1:23 PM
Entered.
Nice to enter two competitions back to back. I can take August off. Just as well as i think it is the feature third round.
The one thing that has been troubling me on this one, and i won't reveal details, is the title. For some reason this is normally pretty clear, but this time i have been pulled all over the place. Strange.
I don't know about other writers (still not used to the idea of calling myself a writer), but when i enter a competition i never have competing ideas. I struggle for the first idea, but once that has beens settled it's as if my head won't allow another until completed. Strange again!
all the best
Sylvia Dahlby (Level 5) ~ 7/21/2012 8:39 PM
Tim you kill me - Alien Zombie Ghost Clown College gets an Excellent from me just for the title.
Olga Tremaine (Level 4) ~ 7/24/2012 3:56 PM
12 entries so far!
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 7/26/2012 8:50 AM
Im number 14!
Im in again :D
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/26/2012 8:10 PM
I want to make this clear. Does the story have to take place on the first day of school?
Olga Tremaine (Level 4) ~ 7/26/2012 11:46 PM
Reginald, as far as I understand the story has to be about a school teacher, but what day - first or last - doesn't make a difference. You are overthinking.
I think the story doesn't have to be set in school, it can be any location as long as the main character is the teacher.
Joseph Conway (Level 2) ~ 7/27/2012 5:43 PM
Submitted my script a few minutes ago. Realized a minute later it didn't HAVE to be based inside a school. Oh darn.
Looks like I could have submitted my other idea after all: Good Will Hunting 2 - Bigfoot Hunting.
JeanPierre Chapoteau (Moderator) ~ 7/31/2012 6:14 AM
I realized none of these questions had been answered. Better not be an DQs for someone not being a "school teacher", because a school is where you go to learn something. Anything. So a school teacher can be what they call an instructor, correct? Charm school teacher. A Boot Camp instructor. A wrestling coach. These are all applicable, right?
Sean Chipman (Level 4) ~ 7/31/2012 7:22 AM
All I know is that I had an idea I wanted to write but for the first time in forever, I actually couldn't come up with a way to end it, so I scrapped it.
Good luck to everyone who's entering, though. =)
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 7/31/2012 10:21 AM
Yeah he/she could probably be a swimming teacher or pastor.
David M Troop (Level 4) ~ 7/31/2012 2:04 PM
I suppose we're on our own for this one.
Chris really must be working hard on his feature for next month.
Faith Friese Nelson (Level 5) ~ 7/31/2012 5:43 PM
I'm not entering this month. Just not enough time in the day...
Eric Crociquia (Level 1) ~ 7/31/2012 6:11 PM
I had the script ready and everything but only now I noticed that I am level 0 and therefore can't enter this month contest :-//
MJ Hermanny (Level 5) ~ 7/31/2012 6:21 PM
Hi Eric,
Just review a couple of the one pagers and you'll be able to enter. You click on the 'VOTE' button up there on the right.
It means that you've given something out before you get loads of helpful reviews on your work.
:)
Chris Messineo (Founder) ~ 7/31/2012 6:31 PM
"I realized none of these questions had been answered."
I'm sorry, but personally, it's been a crazy month.
Honestly though, I think this contest is about as simple as they come: "Your story must be about a school teacher."
"Yeah he/she could probably be a swimming teacher or pastor."
No and no. I would not consider either of these school teachers.
Tim Westland (Moderator) ~ 7/31/2012 7:57 PM
Hurry, Eric !!!!! Hurry !!!!
Ammar Salmi (Level 5) ~ 7/31/2012 11:36 PM
Only 30 minutes left before deadline, or one hour and a half?
Chris Messineo (Founder) ~ 7/31/2012 11:41 PM
20 minutes.
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/1/2012 4:15 AM
I read a couple of these scripts and they are looking nice so far.
Bill Sarre (Level 4) ~ 8/17/2012 3:53 PM
Finished them all, although I may re read a couple as sometimes I can rush these things.
One to discuss after the month end.
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 8/20/2012 2:50 PM
Finished!
Some of them are so good!
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 1:54 AM
what?
Did u vote all july contest entry, amir?
*including my first script?
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 8/21/2012 2:21 AM
I read all ,
It means I read yours ,if you entered !
I think I recognized your script (as a beginner),but couldn't talk about it before end of this month,
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 4:06 AM
I'm sure you know who that is. I'll keep it to mysef though so we don't mess up anoymity.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 4:19 AM
Dear Masoud Soheili,
of course i entered! u knew it, i think :P
And YES, I am beginner! I wrote my first script without script writing software at all.
Less than 5 pages too. At least, I've been trying to follow the contest topic about a school teacher.
Bad or good my first entry, it doesn't matter for me.
I wanna say thanks to u, Amir. U teach me how to write the script.
And because of u, i registered and join moviepoet.com
It's great website, i love it and i will keep writing a script!
Because of my dad is still in hospital and need blood transfusion everyday, i quite busy to take care of him and looked for blood donor. So, i am not finish to vote all entries yet :(
Ayal Pinkus (Level 5) ~ 8/21/2012 4:41 AM
Anita, welcome to MoviePoet! You'll like it here, the people are friendly, you'll learn a lot and you'll have a lot of fun participating in the contests!
I hope your father's health will improve though, that doesn't sound too good...
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 5:43 AM
Dear Ayal Pinkus,
thanks for ur prayer to my dad.
and yes, it's not good at all. my dad got accident more than half month ago.

of course i love this site. REALLY. it's my writing script school and everybody here r my teacher. all posting here r my lesson. i will enjoy learn everything in this website, Ayal. i will always vote and review all entries here, because it's my lesson and learning process.
MJ Hermanny (Level 5) ~ 8/21/2012 6:21 AM
Hi Anita, your enthusiasm is infectious and you will find that Movie Poet is a fantastic place to learn about screenwriting. I hope you enjoy it.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, that's a tough thing to be dealing with and I sincerely hope he gets better. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Khamanna Iskandarova (Level 5) ~ 8/21/2012 6:38 AM
I'm with MJ, Ayal and the rest who just don't voice it - hope your dad gets better and don't let the circumstances stand in your way, keep writing and getting better. Good luck to you and your family.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 6:49 AM
Dear MJ Hermanny and Khamanna Iskandarova
thanks u so much.
ur sympathy about my dad and ur prayer will make me stronger.
sure, i just wrote my first script in july contest.
of course i will write and write and write... whole my life.
just like i never stop walking in my life, i will never stop writing script too.
i stop when i die!
Bill Sarre (Level 4) ~ 8/21/2012 3:27 PM
Hello Anita,
Despite my status of level "4", gosh I' m so proud, I' new around here as well. All i can say, other than I hope your family situation works it out in the best way possible, is that don't take the comments too personally. Writing scripts is a tricky business and sometime a very personal one. If this was your first script just use the comemns as a way to learn and that's all. Make the next one better etc
Cheers
Bill
MJ Hermanny (Level 5) ~ 8/21/2012 4:24 PM
Only just getting into my reviewing for this month and have come across a few with no schoolteachers in them.
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/21/2012 5:32 PM
I hope your dad improve. I'm sure he will though if you keep your head up.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/23/2012 12:23 AM
Dear Bill Sarre,
Congrats for ur Level 4 :)
Ahhh... u too Masoud Soheili, finally u reach Level 4. Congrats!
I should be Level 3 if i finish review all entries this month.
It's not ending yet. I still can run for my Level 3 :)
Thanks u so much for ur good prayer, Bill.
Don't worry i will never take personally all comments in my first script.
I need all ur criticism to grow up. When i write review, i never say like if i don't like and i never say good if it's not good at all. i want people do the same to review my written.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/23/2012 12:25 AM
Dear Reginald McGhee,
thanks a lot. i appreciate it.
really.
and yes, u totally rite, i must stronger.
Tim Westland (Moderator) ~ 8/23/2012 12:54 AM
Hi Anita,
You have an excellent outlook and firm grasp on what to expect and how to react to the constructive criticism you may receive. I have no doubt you will use the comments and improve with each script.
Keep writing!
Tim
Tim Westland (Moderator) ~ 8/23/2012 12:57 AM
Almost forgot... one suggestion.
As English is likely not your native language, you might find a friend who is fluent in English to read your scripts in advance and provide guidance and corrections before you submit to the contests.
Just a thought. :-)
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/23/2012 1:10 AM
I wouldn't mind helping you proofread your future assignements. If you ever need me to help you polish your future screenplays, feel free to ask.
No strings attached.
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 8/23/2012 2:07 AM
I agree with Tim and Reginald,
Its really important thing for us!
Ayal Pinkus (Level 5) ~ 8/23/2012 6:21 AM
I do precisely that. English is not my native language. My mother, who was born in South Africa, regularly checks my scripts before I enter them here on MP.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/24/2012 11:44 AM
Dear Tim Westland,
ahh.. i like ur positive point of view about me. Thanks!
I appreciate it. Really.
Talking about language, i like to learn many languages :)
No matter what my nationality and no matter where i live, i like to be friend with many people around the world and learn their language to help me understand and know they better. I learn chinese language, japanese language and now i learn parsian language too :)
Dear Reginald McGhee,
Sure, i will remember u every time i need some help here :)
i am so happy to be ur friend. thanks anyway.
Dear Masoud Soheili,
which one u agree from them?
more specific please :)
Dear Ayal Pinkus,
wow! seem ur mom support u write script :)
and YES, i never stay in London, i'm not an American too.
--but i ever have American boyfriend.lol--
i use english everyday because most my clients only can speak their native language and english. so i should adapt with them all, including their english :)
perhaps it's more and less affect to my english too.
when i write something, i just catch the track idea and write it as soon as i can.
never think about how good or bad my vocabulary used.
but in my next script, i will pay attention more about it.
btw, ayal, if u have fb or other place we can communicate, just be my friend there and teach me ur mother tongue language. seriously. should be nice if we can talk use ur mother tongue language someday, rite? :)
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 8/24/2012 12:25 PM
I wrote that: "I agree with Tim and Reginald,
Its really important thing for us!"!!!
But all of them right!
I agree with all actually.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/24/2012 7:13 PM
dear masoud soheili,
i just asked, don't be angry please
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 8/25/2012 2:09 AM
I'm not angry
Look at my smile :)
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/25/2012 3:55 AM
:)
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/25/2012 8:05 PM
For a minute, I thought I was going to be disqualified.
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/28/2012 2:46 PM
Ugh I can't open the scripts in the vote page anymore. Is there a probem with the site or something?
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 8/30/2012 6:33 AM
dear reginald mcghee,
when it happened?
i cant open it.
r u sure nothing trouble with ur acrobat reader software?
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 8/30/2012 11:21 AM
It's working now. I think it was abode reader after I updated it.
Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 8/31/2012 11:09 PM
Eight scripts to go, so I'm power reviewing. Nice work so far, everyone.
Margaret Ricke (Level 5) ~ 9/1/2012 12:02 AM
My last review broke MP and kicked me out to the point where I had to log in all over. Sorry I didn't finish them all...
Reginald McGhee (Level 0) ~ 9/1/2012 12:20 AM
It's okay, Margaret. I'm sure accidents happens. But thanks for reviwing mines though.
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 9/1/2012 2:07 AM
I surprised when saw the ranking but understand now that its based on Alphabet!
Will be fix or not?
Also no HM?
Chris Messineo (Founder) ~ 9/1/2012 8:38 AM
"Will be fix or not?"
I'm not sure what you think needs to be fixed.
"Also no HM?"
That's correct. Honorable Mentions are given to scripts that had an average score of 3.5 or higher.
Masoud Soheili (Level 4) ~ 9/1/2012 9:12 AM
Ohhh...
I get it now,
Thought that the ranking is based on scores...
But now understand...
except Winners ,others are just placed by Alphabet :)
Chris Messineo (Founder) ~ 9/1/2012 12:39 PM
FIrst, Second, and Third place are listed in that order. Then Honorable Mentions are listed alphabetically. Finally, the rest of the scripts are entered are listed alphabetically as well.
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 9/1/2012 4:12 PM
Prodigy is last script that i read at August 31, midnite.
But unfortunatety i can't review it :(
At least, i finally reach Level 3.
Matthew Fettig (Level 5) ~ 9/3/2012 1:47 AM
I'm disappointed I didn't get through all the scripts this past month. I've just read Sally's and Bill's, and found both to be excellent. It's late Sunday night and I'll read Olga's tomorrow. I expect it will be in the same league.
Kudos to all of you for your great efforts and success!
Anita Lindawaty (Level 0) ~ 9/3/2012 4:44 AM
dear Matthew,
whould you please read my first script too?
I recently revision it. I really need your feedback and critism for my september contest.
I hope you wanna spare little time of your worthy time :)
